Club Rules

The Club rules should be followed by all club members and visitors for their own wellbeing whenever they are inside the Dojo. Please spend a short time reading and remembering the rules.

Judoka should:

  • never enter the Dojo while the Sensei is not present
  • ask before joining the mat if they are late
  • ask for permission to leave the mat before doing so
  • bow upon joining the mat and Dojo
  • never perform Judo outside the confines of the Dojo
  • always maintain a high level of personal hygiene
  • never wear shoes on the mat but always wear them on leaving the mat
  • never wear jewellery or sharp objects about their person
  • never eat on the mat
  • immediately cease what they are doing if their opponent submits
  • never run about in an uncontrolled manner in the Dojo or misbehave on the mat
  • always listen and obey their instructor or Sensei, and show respect to their fellow Judoka at all times

Two Juniors and an instructor

Many of the rules above have been around since Judo began but they are as relevant today as they were then because they are based on common sense, safety, hygiene and good manners.
